OK. So I'm obviously a dude, and I don't expect anyone to hold the door for me when I'm walking into a store or going to a restaurant. I expect someone to lean over and unlock the car door from the inside (at least I used to before car remotes), but that's about it. But now that I'm a dad with a kid in a stroller, would it be too much for someone to hold the door for a second while I push my baby through the door to the goddamn Tower Records???
It must be because I'm a guy right? At least I hope so - I hope moms with strollers are getting people to hold the door for them. Because if they aren't then that bums me out more.
I can say that 90% of the time, no one holds the door for me with the stroller. And this after years upon years of bringing my karma on door holding for other people to such good levels! :)
If I see a mom with a stroller 10 feet away from the door I've just gone through, I turn around, walk back, and open it/hold it for her.
Because, come on, it's just the right thing to do.
I guess we were raised with much better manners.

I agree with the post. I try to make a point to hold a door open and it urks me sometimes when some people dont even give a simple thank you.

What you describe simply sounds uncivil. You need to live in a smaller town where people still have manners. Anyone holds a door open for anyone else, regardless of gender, encumbrances, etc. And if they accidentally don't, and then notice you after going through the door, they APOLOGIZE. Yes, there are such places left in this world.
There's a similar thread at More Diapers.

Oh my G-d, where do you people live??? I'm only a half hour from downtown Boston. New Englanders are not known for their manners, but they do hold the door for me when I have a stroller. They've even been known to smile on occasion and make eye-contact.
Let me rethink that... they hold the door for me when I have a stroller AND I've had a full night's sleep, my children aren't shreiking, I've had my coffee, and therefore I'm NOT sporting the "I'll maim the next person that crosses my path" look all over my face ... and it is only under those conditions that I dare venture out (I don't get out much).
In other words, don't expect anybody to hold the door for you prior to your daily allotment of caffeine.
